Podiatry

Within the field of podiatry, we deal with the treatment of musculoskeletal complaints. Common complaints of the feet, ankle, knees, hip and back result from incorrect posture or malfunctioning of the feet. Complaints can include muscle-tendon disorders, overuse or complaints of the skin or nails. Feet are the body's support base and interact with the entire posture. We therefore work closely with physiotherapists, general practitioners and specialists in the Hague area to help our patients as much as possible.

Frequently asked questions

Podiatry derives from the Greek word “podos” meaning foot. So, simply translated, podiatry actually means foot therapy. Your feet should be seen as the basis of good posture and the way you move. An imbalance or dysfunction in the feet can cause pain and/or result in other physical complaints. The podiatrist treats these physical complaints resulting from problems of the foot. They also treat skin and nail disorders and give preventive advice and shoe advice.

A podiatrist is a title legally recognised and protected by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. A podiatrist is listed in the BIG Act, Article 34. A podiatrist is guaranteed to hold an HBO bachelor's degree obtained after completing a 4-year HBO course. The title of podologist, (register) podologist, podo-postural therapist or podokinesiologist is not legally recognised by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, it is called a liberal profession which means that anyone can use this title. Often, these professionals have completed a thorough education or course. However, it can also happen that someone working in a shoe shop, without much knowledge, calls himself a podiatrist.
