Silicone orthosis
A silicone orthosis is a custom-made device made of flexible, medical silicone used to support, correct or relieve the toes or forefoot. In podiatry, an orthosis is specially moulded to your foot so that it fits perfectly and is comfortable.
A silicone orthosis can help with:
- Pressure relief for corns, calluses or painful pressure spots, for example
- Position correction of toes, such as hammer or claw toes
- Preventing friction between toes
- Relieving pain while walking and standing
Use silicone orthosis
The (foot) examination showed that your feet need a silicone orthosis to function better. A silicone orthosis is an aid to maintain the position of the feet, correct it or relieve pressure on certain parts of the foot.
- It is important to build up wearing the orthosis slowly; start with a few hours and slowly expand this.
- Putting the orthosis on and off is best done with two hands.
- ’At night, you do not need to wear the orthosis.
- You can wash the orthosis with soap and water.
- Keep the orthosis in the tray with talcum powder; this facilitates putting it on and prevents softening of the skin.
- If the orthosis is uncomfortable or irritating after the assembly phase, we can always adjust it for you.
- No blisters or pressure spots should develop while wearing; if this does happen, please contact us.
- Should and tear in the orthosis or should it break; save the pieces. A repair is easily made for us.
