What are club feet?
Clubfoot, medically known as Pes Equinovarus, is a congenital foot deformity in which the foot is in a twisted, inward and sometimes downwardly bent position. This can affect one or both feet and varies in severity. Clog feet are often diagnosed at birth and require early treatment to promote normal foot function.
Complaints
Clumsy feet can lead to:
- Difficulty walking or pain with movement
- Difficulty wearing normal shoes
- Muscle tension and shortening of tendons and joints
- Reduced mobility of the foot
What can a podiatrist do?
A podiatrist guides foot development and treats stress during movement. Treatment options may include:
- Advice on custom footwear or orthopedic shoes
- Orthotics or orthotics to support the foot and correct its position
- Exercises for mobility and muscle development
- Aftercare after any surgeries or plaster treatments
Recovery
Rehabilitation focuses on improving function, mobility and reducing pain. Early and targeted guidance, combined with proper support and exercises, allows the foot to develop as optimally as possible, making walking and movement more comfortable. Although some abnormalities may be permanent, the quality of walking can greatly improve and complications can be reduced.
