Picking your health insurance

The end of the year is in sight, time to take stock. The holidays are coming up! But before we enjoy these days, it is important to review your health insurance. What do you use? And what exactly don't you use? Almost all insurers' premiums are known by now. It pays to take another look at your policy every year. Are you not paying too much? And perhaps most importantly: are you insured for the care you need?

Basic insurance The basics are compulsory for everyone. However, you can choose from two different options here. The natura policy or a restitution policy. The main difference: with an in-kind policy, you can only You will have to visit contracted healthcare providers, i.e. a doctor or specialist contracted by your health insurer. So if you go to a hospital that is not contracted, for example, you may be reimbursed for only part of the costs. An in-kind policy is usually cheaper than a restitution policy. Find out beforehand what you think is important and whether the healthcare providers in your area are contracted and base your choice on this.

Additional modules Podiatry, physiotherapy, glasses, contact lenses and contraception etc. are covered by the supplementary package. So if you think you will want to use this care in the coming year, it may pay to take out supplementary insurance. The amounts differ per insurance. So, do you already know you will want to visit a podiatrist next year, for instance, or do you wear glasses? In that case, check which insurance best suits your specific healthcare needs.

Good luck with putting together your care package and happy holidays!
